Muir Woods and Wine Country: The ONLY tour combining the two most popular destinations outside of San Francisco ! Groups no larger than 15 make this a great way to travel.

The 8 hour Muir Woods National Park & Wine Country Tour starts in San Francisco and heads north to an extended stop in Muir Woods National Park. The afternoon is spent in Sonoma Valley for Wine tasting and then back through Sausalito and returning to San Francisco. The day begins with picking you up from your lodging between 9:00 and 9:30 am and stopping at the Palace of Fine Arts before heading North across the Golden Gate Bridge

We wind our way through the coastal mountains near Mt. Tamalpais, the highest point in the North Bay region, on our way to Muir Woods. There are great views of the Pacific Ocean and the dense forests that thrive in the foggy environment around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Maps and guides in hand we begin with a short walk in Muir Woods, a National Monument set aside in 1908 as a federally protected area. Here you will see the tallest trees on earth and a portion of a forest that used to cover large sections of the west coast. Now this is one of the only parts of the forest that has never been logged. The Coastal Redwoods will be towering above you as you walk along Redwood Creek, which flows from Mt. Tamalpais nearby.

After the tour you will have 1-2 hours to do what you like, hike the trails that are in and around the Monument, sit and reflect, check out the Visitors Center. From easy to strenuous, ocean views to deep woods, the sights, sounds, and smells are sure to remind the visitor what the woods are all about, and there is something for everybody.

Regrouping again a bit before noon, we make for the Wine Country stopping for a short break in the historic town square of Sonoma and a chance to visit the Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory for a tasting. After lunch we visit 3-4 wineries for tasting in the famous Sonoma and Napa Valleys. You will have a chance, if you are over 21, to taste a wide variety of whites, reds, and dessert wines, whatever is your fancy at such places as Viansa, Cline, Homewood and Benziger Family Wineries.

 

You will also have a chance to see the beautiful valleys that have been supplying California and now the world with fantastic wines for over 60 years. The scenery of the rolling hills and the rows and rows of wine grapes will amaze you as well as provide great snapshots. To conclude late in the day we head back to San Francisco via Sausalito returning you to your lodging between 6:00 and 6:30pm.

Alcatraz Ferry and Tour Info:

After a short 10 minute ferry ride from Pier 33 across San Francisco Bay you will arrive on the infamous Alcatraz Island. The tour includes a movie of Alcatraz history and a 35 minute audio headset tour of an Alcatraz cell block. This audio tour is available in 6 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

To reach the Cell House, you must walk up a steep hill. In addition to the famous prison, Alcatraz features some of the most spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the beautifully landscaped Agave Trail.

Please note that the walk to the Alcatraz Cellhouse is on steep, uneven pavement. SEAT (Sustainable Easy Access Transport) is available for wheelchair users and visitors unable to walk to quarter mile, 12% upgrade. No animals (except certified service animals) are allowed on Alcatraz Island.

After the tour there is time to visit the Alcatraz Museum, the bookshop and explore the island. Stay as long as you like ferries depart every 1/2 hour back to San Francisco.

Average time spent on Alcatraz is 1 1/2 - 3 hours.

Alcatraz Cruises provides the Alcatraz ferry and tickets for the Cellhouse audio tour portion of this combination ticket. Alcatraz is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Alcatraz Cruises is a concessionaires of the National Park Service.

Wine PLUS Woods Tour: This is the only regularly scheduled tour that goes to both Muir Woods and Wine Country in one day.

Muir Woods and the Wine Country are open year round, but as you might imagine with any mountainous areas, conditions and sights can vary depending on the time of year. Water flows strongest in late winter, springtime and early summer.

The weather is warmest between May and October, with possible fog clearing by noon. Whatever time of year you choose to visit the Monument and Wine County we hope you'll be as impressed as most of our visitors

Wine Tasting costs are included for most vineyards. Must be over 21 for Wine Tasting Entrance to Muir Woods National Monument is included in the price of the tour.

Meals are not included.

We use 13 passenger vans with air conditioning and stereo for a comfortable ride. No large crowds like the bus tours.

Alcatraz Tickets are held at Pre-Paid Will Call:

Your Alcatraz boarding tickets will be held at at PIER 33.
Present your Alcatraz Voucher, picture ID and credit card used on the reservation transaction to receive your boarding tickets. Be sure to show up 30 to 45 minutes before your Alcatraz cruise! Tickets may not be picked up prior to the tour date.

Wine Country Cancellation and No Show Policy:

Minimum 20% fee charged for any cancellations once the tour is booked.

∙ Cancellations less than 72 hours before trip departure are charged 30% of the total price.

∙ Cancellations less than 24 hours before trip departure are charged 50% of the total price.

∙ Cancellations less than 12 hours before trip departure and No-Shows are charged 100%.

∙ No-Shows are not entitled to any refund and so are responsible for the full amount (100%) of the trip price.
