The Electric Tour Company Segway tour is one of the most enjoyable family activities we have done in a long time. This activity rates right next to the Daintree Canopy surfing adventure available in Qld Australia. A great way to see a small part of San Francisco and fun way to learn a small part of the history. The segway tour is a great way to familiarize yourself with the city. The staff was very friendly, informative, and made the overall experience enjoyable for all ages. We did the 9:00am tour and highly recommend this time because the streets are less crowded and the sites are easier to be seen. Insider advice: wear long pants, jacket, and gloves - it is very chilly while cruising along. This was a great first experience. My husband and I very much enjoyed the tour. My only piece of advice to other travelers is after the training session you are still not comfortable and the instructor gives you the opt out question take it. It is in my opinion important to feel comfortable in order to enjoy the tour and to not have an accident.

I booked on line for a combo Segway/Alcatraz tour and wasn't quite sure what I was going to get before we flew into SFO. Now that we're home, my husband and I are STILL talking about the blast we had on the Segway tour. I joked it was the most fun you could have legally in all 50 states. The staff was professional and they put you at ease immediately. After the training session you felt competent to ride the city streets. The only non-excellent I would give is that the tour was "conducted" through mikes on the Segways and like all radio transmissions the clarity was lacking at times. But quite honestly, my husband and I both agreed we really didn't care since we just had so much fun riding the Segways through the streets of San Francisco. I have over 30 years of motorcycling experiences and had no problem immediately adapting to the Segway. My husband with NO motorcyling experience only took 5 minutes longer to adjust. If you can ride a bike and chew gum at the same time you're going to have no problem with the Segways. We're looking forward to taking the advance tour down Lombard Street the next time we're in SFO. The tour was fun, the training was excellent, and the staff wonderful. The only change I would recommend is including more sites and explanations on the tour route. It was very limited - lots of residential and beach - and didn't live up to my expectations. I felt like I needed a more traditional tour afterward to really get the history and overview of SanFran. This is a great tour for visitors who are looking for a great way to see the area. The segway allows for the tour to cover more grounds than a walking tour and it is a great experience to ride the segway. The training was very helpful - I was somewhat hesitant as to whether I would fall off the segway but we were given plenty of time to get used to it to really enjoy the experience. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking into this for both San Francisco and the Sausalito tour. We had so much fun from the San Francisco tour, we signed up for the Sausalito tour immediately afterwards! The guys are funny, friendly and courteous. Segway Tours depart from the rear parking lot at 757 Beach Street near the corner of Hyde Street. Located across Beach Street from the Hyde Street Cable Car turn around in Fisherman's Wharf. A Wells Fargo Bank ATM is at the entrance to our training area. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Detailed directions and maps of the meeting location will be provided upon confirmation of your Segway Tour.
Who can ride a Segway? Are Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?
Riding a Segway is similar to riding a bike-it's intuitive but nobody is born knowing how to operate it. That's why the tour includes 40-45 minutes (estimated) of training so you can get familiar with riding a Segway.
IMPORTANT Rider Requirements:
AGE /WEIGHT / RIDER REQUIREMENTS: To All Guests for the Segway Tour: All guests must be age 12 or older AND weigh between 100-250 lbs. (46-115 klilos) No pregnant guests. All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail. You will be standing for 2 hours.
A Segway is not an ideal mode of touring for people with some mobility issues. You will be standing for 2 Hours. Please call if you have questions. This activity is not recommended for guests age 70 and up.
The Segway is not appropriate for those weighing under 100 pounds or over 250 pounds (46-113 kilos.) Helmets and reflective vests are provided and required.
Rules of the Road for Segways in San Francisco: Segways are not allowed on sidewalks in San Francisco. We only offer guided tours. We use a combination of designated bike paths and low speed-light traffic streets to conduct our guided tours.
We stress courtesy, rules of the road and common sense when riding a Segway in the city. The San Francisco Electric Tour Company advocates safe tour routes, careful Segway use and detailed rider education. Alcatraz Ferry departs from Pier 33 along the San Francisco Embarcadero. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time for boarding.

On-street parking in the Fisherman's Wharf area can be hard to find, and nearly every space has a parking meter. Parking meters take nickels, dimes and quarters. Commerical Parking: There are fifteen commercial lots with a five-block radius of the Alcatraz Landing at Pier 33, with a total of more than 3,000 parking spaces. The closest and most convenient lot is at 80 Francisco at Kearny, just one block away, across the Embarcadero from Alcatraz Landing.

Handicap Accessibility: Visitors unable to make the climb up Alcatraz's roads may take advantage of SEAT - Sustainable Easy Access Transport - an electric shuttle that meets each scheduled arrival at the Alcatraz dock and transports visitors requiring mobility assistance from the dock to the prison building. SEAT returns visitors requiring mobility assistance from the prison building back to the dock at regular intervals throughout the day. Visitors requiring mobility assistance may be accompanied by one attendant in their party if space is available. Families with small children and strollers cannot be accommodated on SEAT. The following areas are completely wheelchair accessible: Alcatraz dock area, Prison building main floor, All bookstores, Museum displays and Island theater.

Liability Agreement:
All customers will be required to review and sign our tour agreement and liability waiver before starting their tour. The San Francisco Electric Tour Company assumes no responsibility for delays caused by accidents, breakdown, bad conditions of the road and other conditions beyond control, in addition to insufficient numbers of guests. Not responsible for loss or damage to property.
Changes to a Segway Reservation and Cancellation and No Show Policy:
Reservations require a full deposit via Credit Card. We will send an e-mail confirmation of the date and time of your tour. Deposits are fully refundable if the reservation is canceled 3 days -72 hours or more prior to the scheduled tour. We have a limited amount of Segways. No Shows are charged in full. The deposit WILL NOT be refunded for any reason within 72 hours of your scheduled tour. A signed liability waiver is required prior to your tour departure.
IMPORTANT Check your Confirmation for Correct Date and Time:
It is your responsibility to be at the designated tour location on the correct date. Please check your confirmation carefully. No refund for no-shows.

Tour Size, Routing and Weather:
We reserve the right to change the size or routing of the tour to meet demands for that specific day. San Francisco is famous for the fog! Our tours run fog, light rain or shine. We always suggest multiple layers of warm clothing for any San Francisco activity. Summer afternoon temperatures can be in the 50's. Rain gear is available for those infrequent rainy days. Segways are designed to run in any weather. If seasonal fog or weather obscures the view, tour routes may be altered. You will not be charged if we cancel a tour.

We do not offer Hotel Pick up service this tour.
